Queensland E-Bike Rules: Check Before You Ride
Queensland rules have changed. Since 31 August 2026, E-Bike riders must be at least 16 and hold a valid driver licence (minimum Learner). Equivalent interstate and overseas licences are recognised. Do not ride with an expired or suspended licence, or while disqualified. Registration and insurance are not currently required for a legal E-Bike.
For public use, Queensland’s E-Bike requirements include pedals as the primary power source, maximum continuous rated motor power of 250 W, motor assistance cutting out at 25 km/h, and throttle-only assistance limited to 6 km/h. EN 15194 certification and labelling requirements apply. Eligible legacy and special-purpose bikes have separate assurance arrangements; the transition period for qualifying bikes ends on 28 February 2027.
Wear a helmet, give way to pedestrians and follow bicycle rules. The maximum speed on footpaths is 12 km/h; obey signed shared-path limits and slow down around pedestrians. Rules differ between states and territories.
Before choosing a bike, confirm the exact model’s specifications, compliance label and permitted use. Being listed in our range does not establish approval for public riding. Ask us for model-specific documentation.
